Welcome!
Thanks for stopping by. As a Christ follower for many years, I’d like to share some insights and ideas that might inspire you to seek God, through his Word, in the most practical ways. I’m convinced that whatever today has in store for you, there is encouragement to be found in the scriptures. Take a walk with me as we learn to practically apply biblical truths to our lives, walking in the freedom God intended for us from the beginning.
Let's start from the beginning...
I used to start my days abruptly, tending to what I felt was the most urgent need of my household. As a wife and mother to four children, it seemed impossible to begin any other way. The idea of waking up earlier than I needed to was daunting. I was already stretched so thin during my waking hours and once the day got started, there was no slowing down. A well intentioned, older woman suggested to me that I begin my days with prayer. In my mind, I could see an image of myself kneeled beside my bed, hands folded and head bowed. It took me years to understand the gift this seasoned mother and grandmother was trying to give me.
My life did not afford me the opportunity to commit myself to a sacred time or place for quiet prayer and reflection. I began to purpose within myself to pray more, despite the busyness of my days. So of course, my first question was, “How should I pray?” In Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus himself gives us the answer.
Our Father, who art in heaven...
Generations before us have traditionally recited this passage as a prayer in itself. But if we read carefully, we see that Jesus is actually giving us a template for own prayers. He teaches us how to approach the Father, how to seek His will for our lives and how to ask for the things we need. He continues the example by calling us to daily repentance and forgiveness, along with divine intervention should we fall into temptation. We would think that Jesus would know what is most valuable to the Father in prayer! Lastly, we affirm and honor God through our recognition of his sovereignty.
So, what does that look like in real life?
You climb out of bed and make your way to the bathroom where you find an empty roll of toilet paper…on your way to the closet to grab a fresh roll you pick up the pile of laundry the kids have left behind… the dog is anxiously waiting by the back door…your husband can’t find his wallet and he has to leave right now… where do you find the time to pray?
